Welcome to Tidernas Väg

The Historic Route

The Historic Route (Tidernas Väg, road numbers 272 and 83) is a genuine alternative for those of us who long to leave the main roads and at a slower and more relaxed pace enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings.

The Viking Age

The Historic Route is thought to date all the way back to the birth of Christ. During the Viking Age it was used as a path along which trading goods such as iron or furs were transported to markets further south. Reminders from Viking times can today still be found along the paths.

More than 350 kilometres

The Historic Route, starting inte the city of Uppsala (an hour drive from Stockholm) , takes you through more than 350 kilometres of forests, streams and lakes, through villages and small towns, past 19th century Walloonian iron works, Hälsinglands unique farmsteads and inns. The tourist information offices along the way will provide more information about the countryside, places of interest and last but not least where to eat and stay.
